Your Wednesday Wall Climb

This was a light week for me and luckily one of the books below paid for this weeks pickups. Lets see…

The Long Boxers - Sonic The Hedgehog #14 Lamar Wells Cover

Sonic The Hedgehog #14—Lamar Wells Cover

Pull list book that I read with my son. Sonic just got finished fighting Rough & Tumble and now he has Dr. Starlite to deal with. Will Dr. Eggman release his metal virus on the world? We will have to see what happens in this issue.

See a  Sonic Boom.

The Long Boxers - Spawn #294 Todd McFarlane & Francesco Mattina Black & White Cover

Spawn #294—Todd McFarlane & Francesco Mattina Black & White Cover

Spawn is one of my pull books. I really like this Violator sketch cover but I bought all three covers for this issue. While not a true first appearance we are treated to the return of the Violator in a new form. While the A cover and Virgin B are selling for mostly cover, the sketch is selling for a little more at $10-15 shipped.

You know you wanna. Get some Spawn.

Naomi #1 2nd Print

I have a few things written below about Naomi so check down at the back issues section. All I will say is that this is a disappointing 2nd Print as it is only the 1st print with a color change. Oh, well.

Catch up on the buzz of Naomi.

The Long Boxers - Amazing Spider-Man #16 Cully Hamner Cover

Amazing Spider-Man #16—Cully Hamner Cover

Amazing Spider-man is another pull book for me. I love spidey and here we have the lead up to The Hunted event. We will have to see what Kraven has in store for the web-slinger this time.

Follow your favorite Web-Head.

Old Lady Harley #5

So this is a book I was hearing about from various speculation groups. First App of Old Man Joker and the Jokers Son are in this issue. Sales on eBay were up in the $15 to $20 range on release but no one at my shop seemed to notice as there were still a lot of them on the shelf. I grabbed a few of them, sold them online, and made back the money I spent on my books for the week. Thank you Old Lady Harley!!!

Who is Old Lady Harley?

The Long Boxers - Marvel Comics Presents #2 Gerald Parel Cover

Marvel Comics Presents #2—Gerald Parel Cover

Parel has some really good covers. This one is pretty great too. It has a Norman Rockwell feel to it. It doesn’t hurt that it is currently selling for $75 online.

Read up on Marvel Comics Presents.

Back Issue Beauties

Middlewest #1 Mike Huddleston Cover A

Pretty sure I have told you all that I really like Scottie Young and this series. I have been noticing that this book has been trending up in price online. Visiting my LCS to grab a couple more and lucky for me they had a few for cover. These are books I am grabbing whenever I see it for now.

Middlewest #1 2nd Printing

Soooo I grabbed the second printing too. I like second prints, especially ones like this one where they use unique cover art unlike Marvel 2nd prints lately where they re-use interior art….boring.

Naomi #1 Jamal Campbell Cover A

Initially I didn’t think anything of this book but it is looking like DC is getting behind her. After talking with Craig, hearing his positive review of it, and reading a post on either CBSMT or FACTS (cant remember) that displayed the cover of Naomi #6 I am changing my mind. She is featured alongside Young Justice on the cover and she looks right at home. I am grabbing these whenever I see them now as well.

Naomi #1 Emanuela Lupacchino Cover B

If I’m grabbing the A cover I might as well grab the B cover. My LCS had 5 of these, not anymore.

Naomi #2

I am buying this based on the above statements for issue #1. We will see what happens to her. I am hoping good things, I really enjoy when new characters stick around and become part of the mainstream comic stories.

A bit about this section

The Wednesday Wall Climb books are not intended to be a comprehensive list of what to buy / look for. Instead, these are books actually purchased on Wednesday. More importantly, the motivation behind buying the books. It is good to get a sense of why and not just what. Also, remember to look through the bins and back issues when ever you visit your Local Comic Store (LCS). Some of the Wednesday Wall Climb are not new releases, but still important books to buy. In some ways, even more important as they have had some time pass and the market gets a sense of a book. Stars are always being born and collapsing.

You will likely not be able to find every book you want in a week and you need to be okay with that. Take some time and think about what you are going after and try to target those books you like. Not every book pays off in value, and if you just buy everything without giving your own thought, you will quickly run out of money and be stuck with numerous books you are not interested in. And if you are broke, you at least want stuff you like to ease your pain. Just kidding. Be smart and buy wisely!
