Super psyched about this week, a bunch of fun books I have been waiting for came out. Lets see what I came away with.
Scooby Apocalypse #34—Cover B
I used to watch Scooby-Doo when I was younger and I never paid any attention to the books that DC was putting out for them. I started picking this book up at issue #25 when I heard of the news that one of the characters was going to die. Now its on my pull list. The story is really interesting and is a large departure from the comical roots the show had. The people of the world have been turned into monsters and Sscooby and the gang are trying to survive while finding a solution to the post apocalyptic world they are in. Enjoy!!!
Grab some Scooby Snacks and settle in for Scooby Apocalypse.
Oblivion Song #12
So I decided to give Robert Kirkman (and artist Lorenzo de Felici) a try with this book. I have been reading this since issue 1. It is a really interesting and fun story. A section of the city has been transported to a place called oblivion and a part of that place has been sent to the city. The story centers around Nathan who has been traveling back and forth between realms looking for survivors. The story has just revealed an interesting plot twist and I cant wait to see where they go with it.
Sing a new Oblivian Song.
Spawn Kills Everyone Too #3
Here we have issue three and Spawn’s spawns are on the rampage. They have been killing all of Spawns possible competitors in the movie industry so Spawn can get his movie made. The writing is pretty juvenile and while there isn’t much substance to the story my son does enjoy the heroes meeting their ends in ridiculous ways.
Find out about Spawn.
Amazing Spider-Man Vol 6 #15
When we last left off it appeared that Aunt May was blasted by Black Ant (Eric O’Grady). Did the homeless man save her? Is she dead? We will have to find out in this issue and what is up with the mystery villain we have been seeing since the first issue?
The story starts here for The Amazing Spider-man.
Immortal Hulk #2—Cover D 3rd print
I picked up a couple of these because it is the first app of Dr. Frye and since the later printings have considerably smaller print runs they seem like solid investments. My only gripe is the re-used art for the cover.
Read along with The Immortal Hulk.
Avengers No Road Home #1—Adam Hughes Variant
I must admit that I do not read the Avengers and only picked this up because of the Adam Hughes cover. While not one of his best it is selling for over ratio so it may be a long hold, only time will tell.
Assemble the Avengers.
Dead Man Logan #4—Gerardo Zaffino Variant
This is another one that I only picked up for the Gerardo Zaffino cover. It just looks cool and I had to have it. I did enjoy Old Man Logan and I was bummed when they canceled it and started this mini-series. I guess I will have to read it to see what happens to the time displaced Logan because I am curios.
No one stays dead. Dead Man Logan.
Devils #1
I was hearing some buzz about this book and saw some healthy pre-sales on eBay. Fortunately I picked up three from my LCS and sold two which helped cover some of the costs of my trip this week. Looking forward to reading the last one to see if this series will be worth picking up.
Read about other books from the publisher of Devils.
Alien 3 #4—Cover A
Aliens is one of my favorite franchises I couldn’t not pick this up. In case you do not know, this series is a different take on Alien 3. I was not a fan of Alien 3 so I was pleasantly surprised to read this and see how different it could have been. So far it has not let me down.
More than just a movie franchise, Aliens.
Back Issue Beauties
Hero Comics 2011
I was looking through the dollar bins, saw this and rescued it. Since I already grabbed the New Avengers Adam Hughes variant, I thought this would make a nice addition.
A bit about this section
The Wednesday Wall Climb books are not intended to be a comprehensive list of what to buy / look for. Instead, these are books actually purchased on Wednesday. More importantly, the motivation behind buying the books. It is good to get a sense of why and not just what. Also, remember to look through the bins and back issues when ever you visit your Local Comic Store (LCS). Some of the Wednesday Wall Climb are not new releases, but still important books to buy. In some ways, even more important as they have had some time pass and the market gets a sense of a book. Stars are always being born and collapsing.
You will likely not be able to find every book you want in a week and you need to be okay with that. Take some time and think about what you are going after and try to target those books you like. Not every book pays off in value, and if you just buy everything without giving your own thought, you will quickly run out of money and be stuck with numerous books you are not interested in. And if you are broke, you at least want stuff you like to ease your pain. Just kidding. Be smart and buy wisely!
