Your Wednesday Wall Climb

I missed out on a couple books that I wanted to pickup this from this week’s Wednesday Wall. Let’s see what I did come away with.

The Long Boxers - My Little Pony 75

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic #75 – Sara Richard Variant

I have made it known that I really like Sara Richards covers and this one is no exception. This is an oversized 75th issue and the cover price is $7.99. While I would have liked to also pickup the 1:10 cover variant I was unable to find it in my area. This is not a spec book for me but a pull book that I read to my son before bed.

Do you know what a Sonic Rainboom is?

The Long Boxers - Red Sonja

Red Sonja #8 – Joe Jusko Variant

Joe Jusko always brings back memories of the Marvel Masterpiece cards from the early 90’s. I really wanted to pickup the virgin variant but this was not to be, sold out at Midtown and unavailable locally for me.

Trying to catch up on Red Sonja?

The Long Boxers - Doomsday Clock

Doomsday Clock #9 – Gary Frank Variant

So I stopped reading this, not because I don’t like it but because it comes out so inconsistently. I am waiting until the run is done and I will read it straight through, it is a very good story and I can’t wait to read the rest.

What is the Doomsday Clock?

The Long Boxers - Amazing Spider-Man 16 HU

Amazing Spider-Man #16.HU

Leading up to Hunted Marvel is giving us a Hunted tie-in. The Black Cat has taken a job that may be more than she bargained for. I am just hoping that this arc brings some great story telling to this series.

The Long Boxers - Black Order

Black Order #5 – John Tyler Christopher Variant

Is Ebony Maw actually double-crossing the rest of the Order? We will have to see in this issue! I really like this variant as I have liked all the B cover Black Order covers.

Check the out the Black Orders past.

The Long Boxers - Cosmic Ghost Rider Destroys Marvel History

Cosmic Ghost Rider Destroys Marvel History #1 – Ron Lim Variant

Marvel is getting behind the Cosmic Ghost Rider in a big way. I picked this cover because it has the neat progression of the Punisher-Ghost Rider-Cosmic Ghost Rider. We will have to see of this Mini-series has anything going for it.

Not sure how the CGR came to be? Check it here.

The Long Boxers - Deadpool 10

Deadpool #10

Confession: as much of a Scottie Young fan as I am I do not read Deadpool. I might have to start and see if this is on par with his other stories. The 1st appearance of the villain Goodnight caused me to pick up this issue. After a little research I found out that he had a cameo appearance in issue #1 as well. Immediately I bought a half-dozen issues of this book and have sold them for double cover. Good not great return and I picked up a couple more just in case the character actually takes off. We will have to see.

Deadpool got married?

The Long Boxers - Immortal Hulk 14

Immortal Hulk #14

Immortal Hulk just keeps getting better and better. The amazing Ross covers aren’t hurting anything either. Issue 14 has Bruce coming back to Betty but the Shadow Base is onto him and some interesting events ensue. This issue “kills” Betty Ross-Banner and shows her regaining consciousness with glowing eyes, which leads to my back issue pickups below.

Get on board with the Immortal Hulk?

Back Issue Beauties

The Long Boxers - Hulk 14

Hulk 14 1:10 Variant

Since Betty Ross is seen potentially coming back to life, there is speculation that she will become the Red She-Hulk again, possibly the Harpy. Either way this book, while not being the Red She-Hulks first appearance it is her first cover appearance and is now a $25 or more book.

The Long Boxers - Hulk 15

Hulk #15

Hulk #14 is the Red She-Hulks 1st cover appearance but in this issue she has a full panel appearance at the end of it. This book is also rising in price along with issue #16 which has a cover appearance and full appearance in the book. If you can find these I would grab them.

A bit about this section

The Wednesday Wall Climb books are not intended to be a comprehensive list of what to buy / look for. Instead, these are books actually purchased on Wednesday. More importantly, the motivation behind buying the books. It is good to get a sense of why and not just what. Also, remember to look through the bins and back issues when ever you visit your Local Comic Store (LCS). Some of the Wednesday Wall Climb are not new releases, but still important books to buy. In some ways, even more important as they have had some time pass and the market gets a sense of a book. Stars are always being born and collapsing.

You will likely not be able to find every book you want in a week and you need to be okay with that. Take some time and think about what you are going after and try to target those books you like. Not every book pays off in value, and if you just buy everything without giving your own thought, you will quickly run out of money and be stuck with numerous books you are not interested in. And if you are broke, you at least want stuff you like to ease your pain. Just kidding. Be smart and buy wisely!
